Some FAQs on selling mtg cards
February 16th, 2024 • By Gio
Today I thought I’d address some of the common objections to selling MTG cards.
Overall, my point is that selling cards on Mage is very simple, and that, the more we’re, the easier it gets for everyone.
FAQ: I have thousands and thousands of cards. Just sorting them is going to take me ages. Where do I start?
Start small.
Maybe pick 100 or 200 good cards and put them up for sale. As you begin selling, you’ll feel more motivated to keep going, and to sort your collection properly, progressively.
The more singles you add, the more you’ll sell.
But, as with anything in life, you can’t do it all in one day. Do it progressively. Good things take time.
FAQ: I fear people are just going to buy random 10p cards from me, and that I’m going to be selling at a loss. Is that the case?
It’s not.
If you have listed a decent amount of cards, almost every time customers will buy several cards from you, cards of different types and price, bringing you a good average value per sale.
And, sure, very rarely you might have someone buying a couple of cards worth almost nothing from you, but, even in that extreme case, the buyer will be paying for the postage and a little extra for packaging. And that sale will count towards your ratings anyways.
Besides, there are different strategies you can follow. For example, you could decide to set a minimum price for your commons, say 15p or 20p. Or you could decide to only sell cards worth £1 or more.
FAQ: I don’t even know how much my collection is worth, why bother?
If you’ve been playing Magic for a few years, very likely your collection will be worth well over £1K. Having a few thousand pounds worth of cards is very common.
As you list your cards, you'll be able to see your total collection value in your inventory page on Mage.
FAQ: What if there are price spikes and I have to sell too cheap?
Whereas we can’t prevent price fluctuations, Mage gives you a tool to bulk update your prices - this way you can make sure your cards are valued fairly.
FAQ: Why should I bother selling my mtg cards?
Once you get started, it’s very easy. Honestly.
Think of all the things you could do with some extra cash. That additional income can make a big difference.
Besides, trust me, it’s a lot of fun! I’ve always enjoyed sending cards to anywhere in the UK, and seeing how my unwanted cards were going to be used by some fellow player.
